Email Problems
A number of schools were migrated to the Shireland Learning Gateway over the Easter 2008 holiday period. This migration was carried out at the school's request but it is inevitable that not all staff will have been made aware of the effect of the migration.
Please contact Broadband Sandwell to determine if your school is included in this migration.
The change will have the following effect on email access for these schools:
- Emails are no longer being delivered to the old Webmail system
- Problems relating to the new service will be dealt with by Shireland Learning, please contact then on 0121 558 8066 or 0121 565 8816.
- Old emails stored on the Webmail system are still accessible, please follow this link if you are having difficulty connecting to it.
- Staff at affected schools should be asked to log on to the old system and manually remove any emails that they wish to keep. Unfortunately there is no automatic process for transferring old emails as they are stored in a different format and so transfer would be difficult to automate.
- The old Webmail accounts will not be deleted until they start to become a problem. This will probably not happen until the next time that the Webmail server's hard disks become full. Existing users will continue to be able to access old emails stored on the Webmail system until that time.
