Workarounds and Bypasses

If the internet stops working, let us know straight away. Our telephone number is 0121 569 2400.

We will try to diagnose where the problem lies.

  • The problem may be local, i.e. inside the school. This will need to be resolved by your own technician support, call us if you need help.
  • The problem may be a cable break in the roadway (we get these sometimes where a digger goes through the cable). You will have to wait for the break to be repaired.
  • The problem may relate to the network's central server farm. If so, the problem may not affect all services, but configuration of school based equipment may be needed to by-pass the affected part.
    • If the problem is with the proxy servers, some sites may be accessed by adding bypass rules to your Internet connection. Sites such as:

        www.broadbandsandwell.org.uk,

        www.smis.org.uk,

        www.slmlg.net

        www.shirelandlearning.co.uk

can be accessed directly, and so schools may be able to continue to send and eceive emails and to find out about service updates. Your techician support should be able to add these sites to the "bypass proxy server" website list in the browser.

  • Some of these sites will also be available if the fault is between the server farm and the Internet.

Some faults will inevitably take longer to diagnose and repair. If a fault occurs, ask us if there are other techniques that can be used that relate to that particular fault.

Please be assured that, in times of fault, we will do all that we can to assist with the fault's recification.
