Broadband Sandwell Tools AntiVirus Pack (Removal Tools)

Broadband Sandwell has created the removal tools pack to automatically remove and protect against some of the worst viruses and worms encountered on school networks. Subscribing customers can download from the link below.

Simply click on the link, enter the user name TECHNICAL and the password given to you by Broadband Sandwell, select open, and the installation will happen automatically. (NB : if you are suffering from a virus or worm which periodically restarts your workstation, you will need to download the file, save onto a USB memory stick or a network/shared drive and then open it on the infected machine).

Spyware

Spyware is a general term used for software that performs certain behaviors such as advertising, collecting personal information, or changing the configuration of your computer, generally without appropriately obtaining your consent. You might have spyware or other unwanted software on your computer if:

You see pop-up adverstiments even when your not on the web

The page your Web Browser first opens to (your home page) or your browser search settings have changed without your knowledge

You notice a new toolbar in your browser that you didn't want, and find it difficult to get rid of

Your computer takes longer to perform certain tasks

You experience a sudden rise in computer crashes

To help protect yourselves from such spyware Broadband Sandwell recommend “Windows Defender” from Microsoft. This will have to be installed on individual PC’s and Laptops located at the school site.
